Underlining

Used to back the fashion or shell fabric in order to modify the hand or visual effect of the garment; to add firmness, weight, opaqueness or stiffness. Usually sewn as one with the individual panels of the garment.

Under-stitching

A line of stitching that appears on the underside of a garment, usually around facings, flys, etc., that causes the top fabric to roll slightly over and hide the seam edge.

Universal Product Code

UPC

(Universal Product Code) A unique 12-digit vendor “SKU” number assigned by the retailer. Usually the first 6 digits represent the vendor’s ID#, the next 5 digits are the specific product SKU and the last digit is the check digit.
